Centre Manager - Great Beginnings Kariong

“My personal philosophy is really based on engaging children through their interests, offering a play based curriculum that is exciting and empowering to children and creating citizens of our community who have a lifelong love of learning and ongoing quest for knowledge.”

I have been part of the service here at Kariong since the first meeting with our builders and have had the pleasure of seeing the project develop from a dream to a reality. Kariong is a service I am very proud of and have a deep love for every aspect of what happens here each day. This service is a big part of my personal journey in seeking beautiful, quality learning environments for children where they are encouraged to learn without limits. I am a true believer that every child is capable of wonderful achievements when in an environment that promotes their strengths and encourages them to challenge the ideas put before them simply by believing that the World can be anything they want it to be.

I was fortunate enough to find my career passion early on and completed my University degree straight out of school. Since completing my Bachelor of Education qualifications through Macquarie University, I now have over 20-year experience working in early childhood services. I was a face to face classroom teacher for 10 years and have now been a Director for over 10 years…But nothing gives me more pleasure in my day than to get back into the classroom and immerse myself in the experiences with the children.

I am also the mother of two children myself. One of my ambitions as an educator was to ensure that the services, I have been connected with are always of the highest quality and what I would want for my own children. I became very passionate as an educator many years ago when learning new ideas about what we could offer children. Through the development of the ‘Early Years Learning Framework’ curriculum for early childhood services I am so excited to see early education in Australia be recognised for the lifelong impact it has on children’s futures.

My personal philosophy is really based on engaging children through their interests, offering a play based curriculum that is exciting and empowering to children and creating citizens of our community who have a lifelong love of learning and ongoing quest for knowledge. I also really believe in celebrating the moment, children are not simply in early educational services to prepare them for the next stage of life, what they are doing right now matters and needs to be valued. Children are also not waiting to be citizens of the future; they are valued members of the community today and have a lot to offer that everyone can learn from by listening to and valuing their thoughts and ideas.

I am very honoured to let you know that the team here at Great Beginnings Kariong have mostly been here since we opened. We are a committed team who share our philosophy for education and passion for learning. All the educators of the service are equally dedicated to the program and experiences they provide and the learning environments they create.

One of the things I am also most proud of is the connection the team has with the families of the service. It is so important to us that every person who walks in our door feels a connection to the centre and a sense of belonging to the space. Family involvement is highly valued by everyone and we as a team believe this promotes greater connection between the learning that happens within the service and the learning that happens within the family, each equally important and valued.
