Our Golden Bay Kindergarten’s Philosophy
At our Golden Bay Kindergarten, we focus on helping children learn through play, curiosity, and real-world experiences. We understand that every child comes to us with different knowledge, abilities, and ideas. Our educators plan learning activities that build on what each child already knows, helping them take the next steps at their own pace. We also value family input, knowing that families and caregivers play a vital role in supporting their child’s learning and happiness.
Our program is linked to Australia’s National Quality Framework, which means we offer high-quality education and care. We aim to create strong foundations for every child’s success through a balance of learning, friendship, creativity, and fun.

Our Golden Bay Kindergarten’s learning goals
Our kindergarten program supports every stage of your child’s development:
- Junior Kinder program: Our focus is on social wellbeing, helping children feel safe and confident as they transition into preschool. We encourage friendships, communication, and the joy of being part of a group.
- 4-year-old Kindergarten program: We build on social skills while introducing early literacy and numeracy activities. Through fun learning experiences, we prepare children for a smooth and happy start to their school journey.

Flexible routine in Kindergarten
Our daily routine gives children a sense of security while offering plenty of learning and play opportunities:
- 6:30 am – 7:30 am | Family grouping and breakfast: a relaxed start to the day with breakfast and social play.
- 7:30 am – 8:50 am | Transition to kindergarten program: indoor or outdoor play activities set up based on children’s choices and the weather.
- 8:50 am | Morning group time: a short group session focused on intentional learning themes, followed by mindfulness and movement activities.
- Throughout the day: progressive morning tea and lunch, spontaneous play-based learning, indoor and outdoor exploration, and RAMSR movement sessions before lunch to help with transitions.
- Sleep and rest time: beds for resting children, with mindfulness activities and quiet experiences for those who prefer to stay awake.
- Afternoon: progressive afternoon tea, sustainability projects like gardening and recycling, outdoor learning, and art activities until home time.
- 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm | Late snack and family grouping: a calm end to the day with familiar educators and quiet play.

Strong local school partnerships
At our Golden Bay Kindergarten, we believe that starting school is an exciting milestone, and we are committed to making the transition as smooth and positive as possible. We work closely with Golden Bay Primary School to help children feel confident, familiar, and excited about the next step in their learning journey. Throughout the kindy year, you and your child will have access to:
- Transition to school statements: Our Early Childhood Teachers carefully prepare and share detailed transition statements with your child’s new school, giving teachers valuable insights into each child’s strengths, interests, and areas where they may need extra support, ensuring a smoother start to their formal education journey.
- Kindy open nights: We invite families to attend Family Kindy Information Sessions at Golden Bay Primary School, helping families and children build a sense of familiarity with their future school community, meet key staff members, and learn about what to expect when starting school.
- Various support resources: We collaborate closely with Golden Bay Primary School to introduce visual supports, self-regulation tools, and practical school readiness strategies in our kindergarten program, helping children build the confidence, skills, and emotional resilience needed for a successful transition to their new learning environment.

Frequently asked questions
In Australia, sessional kindergartens or preschools are usually operated by local government, religious organisations, schools, private organisations or the community. They usually run during school term and school hours, meaning the program runs for 40 weeks per year, with most sessions finishing up around 2 pm, over 2-3 days per week.
The kindergarten or preschool program is also offered in long day care centres. Most long day care centres are open from 7:00 AM. to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday with flexible drop-off/pick-up times to better accommodate busy working families. Long day care centres run 52 weeks per year, meaning your child would not miss out on valuable learning opportunities during school holidays.
Nutritional meals and snacks are covered in long day care centres, so you don’t have to worry about packing lunches.
Child Care Subsidy still applies when your child attends the kindergarten programs offered in long day care services. Depending on your state or territory, different funding options can be combined with your Child Care Subsidy savings, making kindergarten or preschool more affordable for your family.
Essentially, there is no difference between the curriculums adopted by long day care and sessional kindergarten or preschool providers. They are both run by qualified early childhood teachers, and they all align with Early Years Learning Framework, focusing on supporting individual children’s development, interests and needs through play-based and intentional learning experiences.
If your child is already settled at a long day care centre, they have the opportunity to stay in a familiar environment, transitioning together with their friends.
All our kindergarten programs run every day of the week. This means families have the flexibility for their child/ren to receive the highest quality learning experiences on days that best support them.
All our kindergarten programs follow the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), a national learning framework for Australia. These programs are informed by qualified and passionate Early Childhood Educators and Teachers. Our Curriculum accommodates each individual child’s learning, development, and well-being.
Kindergarten provides a unique time for children to further develop their positive dispositions to learning, oral language skills, and social/emotional and physical capabilities.
